Launch your career in policy and legislation at the heart of government.

If you’re a law graduate, paralegal, or early-career professional who enjoys analysing legislation, solving problems, and thinking about how laws can be improved — this role offers the perfect opportunity to build your policy career.

At the Queensland Revenue Office (QRO), part of Queensland Treasury, you’ll work alongside experienced policy officers and lawyers to support the development and maintenance of the State’s revenue laws — including duties, payroll tax, land tax, and royalties.

The Role

As a Policy Officer in the Policy and Legislation Division, you’ll contribute to shaping Queensland’s revenue framework by assisting with policy research, legislative drafting, and project work.

Your day-to-day work will involve:
  • Assisting in developing and reviewing policy proposals and legislative amendments
  • Analysing the application of Queensland’s revenue laws to real-world issues
  • Comparing legislation across jurisdictions to identify best practice approaches
  • Preparing clear and well-reasoned briefs, submissions and correspondence
  • Contributing to project teams working on special initiatives or legislative reform
It’s varied, intellectually stimulating work that combines legal analysis, policy thinking, and practical problem-solving — all while learning from a highly regarded policy team.

About You

You might be:
  • A law graduate (with at least 12 months experience in a legal role), junior lawyer, or policy officer looking to apply your legal and analytical skills in a broader government context
  • Someone who enjoys researching legislation, interpreting complex frameworks, and producing well-structured written advice
  • Curious about how laws are made and how government policy shapes the community
You’ll bring:
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • An ability to interpret and apply legislation accurately
  • Clear written communication and attention to detail
  • A genuine interest in public policy and government decision-making
Government experience isn’t required — what matters most is your intellectual curiosity, legal reasoning, and willingness to learn.

Why Join Queensland Treasury
  • Work on policy that directly impacts Queensland’s economy and community
  • Learn from senior policy and legal professionals in a collaborative team
  • Enjoy flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • Build skills in legislative drafting, policy design and stakeholder engagement
  • Permanent full-time role with clear career progression pathways
Salary

As this role is classified at the AO4 level, your base salary will align with the Queensland Treasury AO4 band (plus 12.75% superannuation).
