About the role:
The Assistant Crown Solicitor, Workplace Law is a key, legal specialist role responsible for the leadership, management and co-ordination of the activities and performance of the Workplace Law Team at Crown Law. Reporting to the Deputy Crown Solicitor for the area and working closely with two other Assistant Crown Solicitors and the Practice Manager in a collegiate, collaborative team, your work will include:
  • acting as an expert advisor across a broad range of often complex and sensitive employment law matters in the State and Federal jurisdictions as well as providing advice on associated administrative law matters to a range of government clients;
  • leading, managing and supervising a high performing team to achieve customer focussed and results oriented legal advice;
  • building and developing strong client relationships across Crown Law’s clients including being a key client manager for nominated clients;
  • ensuring that productivity and revenue targets are met including the effective allocation of work and reporting these to Crown Law’s Strategic Leadership Team;
  • leading, developing and maintaining an existing high performance and continuous improvement culture that addresses performance issues, develops the team and promotes the full potential of each team member; and
  • driving innovation and modernisation within the legal function by supporting new strategies, technologies, and best practices.

Skills/Experience:
To be considered for this role you will have: 

  • 10+ years’ PAE in employment and workplace law (ideally with large law firm experience) equipping you with the skills to both manage your own complex file load as well as supervise and settle work completed by your team;
  • demonstrated successful leadership of a high performance legal team focussed on excellent client outcomes + strong financial performance;
  • an optimistic outlook fostering a positive, respectful, collaborative and inclusive workplace culture;
  • the confidence, gravitas and experience to advise and work closely with senior executives including Ministers and Director Generals on complex legal matters;
  • an engaging, customer centric, solutions focussed approach with key stakeholders fostering effective relationships; and
  • a passion for innovation and continuous improvement of legal service delivery.
