The Department:

About the role:
The Deputy Crown Solicitor (Public Law Branch) is a key member of the Strategic Leadership Team contributing to the strategic direction and business plan of Crown Law. This role reports to the newly appointed Crown Solicitor who is leading an exciting period of improvement and modernisation of an already high performing legal practice. You will work closely with other members of the leadership team, supported by Assistant Crown Solicitors and experienced lawyers and focus on:
  • leading and directing lawyers, paralegals and support staff across a highly regarded administrative law and employment law team;
  • providing strategic, expert legal advice on complex and sensitive employment law, administrative law and related litigation matters;
  • contributing to Crown Law’s annual business plan;
  • building and developing client relationships with Crown Law’s clients;
  • proactively identifying and managing current and emerging legal issues;
  • leading, developing and maintaining an existing high performance and continuous improvement culture that promotes the full potential of each team member; and
  • driving innovation and modernisation within the legal function by introducing new strategies, technologies, and best practices.

Skills/Experience:
To be considered for this role you will have: 

  • 15+ years’ PAE relevant legal experience;
  • demonstrated successful leadership of a high performance legal team with a collaborative leadership style;
  • an optimistic outlook fostering a positive, respectful and inclusive workplace culture;
  • the confidence, gravitas and experience to advise and work closely with senior executives including Ministers, Director Generals and the Attorney General on complex legal matters;
  • ideally experience advising government clients or working in the government providing you a demonstrated understanding of the public sector;
  • an engaging, customer centric, solutions focussed approach with key stakeholders fostering effective relationships; and
  • a passion for innovation and continuous improvement of legal service delivery.
