Legal Counsel – Commercial Contracts
Commercial contracts focused in-house role with a large, complex organisation. Broad exposure, strong legal team and ~$165-180k + benefits.
- Strong focus on commercial contracts, drafting and negotiation
- Broad in-house exposure across governance, leasing, disputes and risk
- $165-180k + benefits + WFH and flexibility
The Company
This is a large, complex and well-established organisation with a significant Australian footprint and a highly regarded in-house legal team.
Legal is a true business partner and works closely with internal stakeholders across multiple service streams. This is not a narrow back-office legal role. It is a hands-on commercial role where legal is involved in helping the organisation get things done properly.
The Role
This role has a strong commercial contracts focus.
Working closely with other experienced lawyers in the team, you will draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial agreements while also advising the business on practical legal and risk issues.
Your work will include:
• drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts;
• advising internal stakeholders on contractual issues, risk and obligations;
• supporting procurement, supplier and service agreements;
• assisting with governance, compliance and regulatory matters;
• advising on property and leasing matters where required; and
• assisting with disputes, investigations and broader legal issues.
This is a good role for a lawyer who wants the core of their work to be commercial contracts, but who also wants the breadth that comes from working in a large in-house legal team.
About You
You will have 4-8 years’ PAE with strong commercial contracts experience.
You may currently be in private practice and looking for your first in-house move, or you may already be in-house and looking for a broader role in a larger organisation.
You will bring:
• strong contract drafting and negotiation skills;
• good commercial judgement;
• the ability to translate legal issues into clear, practical advice;
• confidence dealing with internal stakeholders; and
• a willingness to be hands-on and work across a broad range of matters.
Experience with procurement, services agreements, governance, regulatory issues or disputes will be useful, but the key requirement is a strong commercial contracts foundation.
Benefits
• $165-180k package + benefits
• Strong, experienced and supportive legal team
• Genuine breadth, with contracts as the core focus
• Large, stable organisation
• WFH (1-2 days) and flexible working arrangements
• Good pathway for a lawyer wanting to build a rounded in-house skillset
