The Company
This is a large, complex and well-established organisation with a significant Australian footprint and a highly regarded in-house legal team.
Legal is a genuine business partner, working closely with senior stakeholders across a diverse range of commercial and operational matters. This is a broad in-house role where you’ll help the organisation navigate legal risk while supporting the delivery of important community services.
The Role
Reporting to the General Counsel, this is a senior commercial role combining complex legal advice with leadership responsibilities.
Commercial contracting sits at the core of the role, however you’ll also advise across governance, procurement, regulatory issues, disputes, property and strategic projects, while mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to the ongoing development of the legal function.
Responsibilities include:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial agreements;
- Advising on commercial, contractual and regulatory matters;
- Supporting procurement, supplier and service arrangements;
- Advising on governance, compliance and organisational risk;
- Managing disputes and external legal providers where required; and
- Mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to legal precedents, frameworks and continuous improvement.
About You
You will have around 8+ years’ PAE gained in private practice, in-house or a combination of both.
You’ll bring:
- Strong commercial contracts experience;
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills;
- Commercial judgement and a pragmatic approach to legal risk;
- The ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders; and
- An interest in mentoring others and helping shape a high-performing legal function.
Experience in procurement, governance, property, privacy or regulatory law will be well regarded, but is not essential.
